Every Girl Trip comes with more than a suitcase of memories. It also comes with a book.
When I started Girl Trips, the whole idea was to create something bigger than a weekend away. Trips are amazing, of course, but what really matters are the friendships and connections that stick. The laughter over dinner, the quiet chats with coffee in hand, the “you too?!” moments. That’s the magic. But once the retreat is over and everyone goes back to real life, the question is always: how do we keep that going?

That is where the Sisterhood of the Traveling Books comes in. Each trip, I pick a book by a Canadian author that shines a light on women’s lives. It could be about friendship, resilience, identity, mystery, or aging with a wicked sense of humour. The one thing it will not be is centred around a man. As Cher once said, “Oh, I love men. I think men are the coolest. But you don’t really need them to live.” Exactly. This club is about women’s stories, our friendships, our laughter, and all the messy, glorious parts of womanhood that deserve the spotlight.
Everyone on a trip will get a copy of the book. You can dive into it on a plane, train, or bus, curl up with it in bed, sneak a chapter between activities, or enjoy it on the dock with a glass of wine. Most of us rarely carve out time to read in everyday life, so I am baking it right into the Girl Trips experience. You will have something juicy to savour that stays with you long after the retreat ends.
A few weeks after the retreat, we’ll gather online for a relaxed chat. This is not high school English class, so there are no right or wrong answers. It is about swapping impressions, sharing what resonated, and laughing at the parts that hit a little too close to home. Past Girl Trips travellers are always welcome to join in as well. My plan is to offer an alumni discount on future books, so even if you are not on the next trip, you can still read along and be part of the circle. And that’s the real goal, to connect one retreat to the next so the sisterhood keeps growing.
đź“– The First Pick:
The Good Women of Safe Harbour by Bobbi French (Harper Collins).

This book is the perfect kick-off for our sisterhood. It’s moving, funny, and deeply relatable, with characters you’ll want to hug and maybe throttle at the same time. It’s a story about women carrying each other, even when life gets hard, which is exactly what Girl Trips is all about. After our discussion, I’ll be sharing a recap post so you can see what the group thought, and maybe even join us for the next round.
đź’¬ How It Works
- Retreat attendees get the book as part of their trip.
- We meet online a few weeks later for a casual group discussion.
- Past travellers can join the conversation too.
📚 What We’re Looking For in Future Books
- Written by a Canadian woman.
- A story that explores some aspect of womanhood — friendship, family, resilience, identity, mystery, humour, aging, or all of the above.
- Absolutely no centring of men. (They have enough space everywhere else. This is ours.)
Got a recommendation that hits those marks? I’d love to hear it. Drop me a note and it might just become the next book in our Sisterhood of the Traveling Books.
Because Girl Trips isn’t really about where we go. Travel is just the backdrop. The real story is always the women who come together, and now the books that travel with us, connecting each chapter of the journey.
